Ciao, travelers! I’m Rileigh, the friendly travel agent behind Travel Mellow. Having lived in Italy for two years, I’m excited to share my insider tips for making the most of your time in the vibrant city of Milan. This one-day itinerary is designed to help you experience the authentic side of Milan, away from the typical tourist traps. Let’s dive in!

Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Milan

Start your day by marveling at the grandeur of the Duomo di Milano, one of the largest and most impressive cathedrals in the world. I recommend arriving early to avoid the crowds and take in the intricate Gothic architecture in all its glory. After exploring the Duomo, head to the nearby Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a stunning 19th-century shopping arcade with a glass-vaulted ceiling. Grab a coffee and pastry at one of the cafes and soak in the elegant atmosphere.

For lunch, indulge in some authentic Milanese cuisine at Ratanà, a cozy trattoria known for its delicious risotto alla milanese and ossobuco. After refueling, make your way to the Castello Sforzesco, a grand 15th-century castle that now houses several museums and art collections. Spend some time wandering through the castle grounds and admiring the impressive fortifications.

As the evening approaches, head to the charming Navigli neighborhood, known for its picturesque canals and lively aperitivo scene. Stroll along the canals, stopping for a refreshing Aperol spritz or a glass of wine at one of the many bars and cafes lining the waterways. For dinner, I suggest grabbing a panzerotto (a fried dough pocket filled with tomato and mozzarella) from the legendary Luini bakery – a true Milanese treat!
