Ciao, travelers! I’m Rileigh, the owner of Travel Mellow, and I’m excited to share my personalized itinerary for a day in Naples, Italy. Having lived in Italy for two years, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for the country’s rich culture, history, and cuisine. This itinerary is designed to help you experience the authentic side of Naples, away from the typical tourist traps.

Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Naples

Start your day by immersing yourself in the vibrant historic center of Naples. Wander through the narrow streets and soak in the lively atmosphere of Piazza del Gesù. I recommend visiting Via San Gregorio Armeno, also known as the “Christmas Alley,” where you’ll find artisans crafting intricate nativity scenes year-round. Don’t miss the stunning Duomo di Napoli, the city’s cathedral, with its impressive Gothic architecture and stunning frescoes.

For a unique experience, venture underground and explore the Napoli Sotterranea, a network of ancient tunnels and catacombs that offer a glimpse into Naples’ past. After your underground adventure, visit the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli to admire the impressive collection of ancient Roman artifacts, including mosaics and frescoes from Pompeii and Herculaneum.

As the day winds down, take a leisurely stroll along Via Caracciolo, the scenic seafront promenade, and enjoy the stunning views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius in the distance.

For an authentic Neapolitan dining experience, I highly recommend Pizzeria da Michele or Sorbillo for some of the best pizza you’ll ever taste. If you’re in the mood for traditional street food, head to Nennillo and try the famous cuoppo (fried seafood) or pizza fritta (fried pizza). Don’t forget to indulge in some traditional Neapolitan pastries like sfogliatella and babà from Pasticceria Poppella.
