Ciao, travelers! I’m Rileigh, the owner of Travel Mellow, and I’m thrilled to share my personalized one-day itinerary for Rome, Italy, during the beautiful Fall season. Having lived in Italy for two years, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for the country’s rich culture, history, and cuisine. This itinerary is designed to help you experience the eternal city like a local, avoiding tourist traps and embracing authentic experiences.

Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Rome

Start your day early and head to the iconic Vatican City. I recommend booking skip-the-line tickets in advance to avoid long queues. Marvel at the grandeur of St. Peter’s Basilica and the breathtaking Sistine Chapel. After your visit, grab a quick lunch at Pizzarium, a local favorite for delicious pizza al taglio (pizza by the slice).

In the afternoon, make your way to the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome’s most famous landmarks. Toss a coin into the fountain and make a wish to return to the eternal city. From there, stroll to the Pantheon, an ancient Roman temple that has been remarkably preserved. Nearby, you’ll find the lively Piazza Navona, a bustling square with street artists, cafes, and the beautiful Fountain of the Four Rivers.

As the sun begins to set, head to the Roman Forum and Colosseum. These iconic ruins offer a glimpse into ancient Roman life and are particularly stunning in the golden hour light. For dinner, I suggest Trattoria da Cesare al Casaletto, a cozy trattoria serving delicious Roman cuisine. End your day with a scoop (or two!) of gelato from the legendary Giolitti.
