Ciao, travelers! I’m Rileigh, the owner of Travel Mellow, and I’m excited to share my personalized itinerary for a 2-day trip to the beautiful town of Tropea, Italy. Having lived in Italy for two years, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for the country’s rich culture, history, and cuisine. This itinerary is designed to help you experience the authentic charm of Tropea while avoiding the typical tourist traps.

Day 1: Exploring the Charming Streets of Tropea

Start your day by immersing yourself in the historic center of Tropea. Wander through the charming streets and piazzas, taking in the vibrant atmosphere and stunning architecture. Be sure to visit the Norman Cathedral and the Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell’Isola, both of which offer breathtaking views of the coastline. For a leisurely stroll, head to the Corso Vittorio Emanuele, where you can admire the colorful buildings and stop for a coffee or gelato. End your day by catching the sunset from the Belvedere of Tropea, a scenic overlook that offers panoramic views of the town and the Tyrrhenian Sea.

For dinner, I recommend Ristorante La Vignetta, a cozy establishment that serves delicious seafood and local specialties. Don’t miss their signature dish, the spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams).

Day 2: A Day Trip to Pizzo and Coastal Exploration

Today, venture out to the nearby town of Pizzo, just a short drive from Tropea. Start your day by visiting the Church of Piedigrotta, a unique rock-hewn church carved into the cliffside. Next, explore the Pizzo Castello, a medieval castle with a rich history and stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. While in Pizzo, be sure to try the famous Tartufo di Pizzo, a decadent chocolate gelato treat that originated in this town.

After your visit to Pizzo, head back to Tropea and spend the afternoon relaxing on one of the town’s beautiful beaches. I suggest Tropea Beach or Blanca Beach, both of which offer crystal-clear waters and stunning coastal scenery. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also explore the nearby hiking trails or take a boat tour along the coastline.

For dinner, try Trattoria Il Gambero Rosso, a cozy trattoria that serves authentic Calabrian dishes made with fresh, local ingredients. Don’t forget to save room for a scoop (or two) of gelato from Gelateria Tonino, a local favorite known for their creamy, flavorful gelato.

General Travel Tips for Tropea, Italy

  • Dress in layers, as the weather can be cool, especially in the evenings.
