Ciao, travelers! I’m Rileigh, the owner of Travel Mellow and a former resident of Italy. Turin, the capital of Piedmont, is a hidden gem that often gets overlooked by visitors to Italy. But with its rich history, stunning architecture, and incredible food and wine scene, it’s a city that deserves to be on your radar. In this 3-day itinerary, I’ll share my insider tips for experiencing the best of Turin during the winter season.

Day 1: Exploring Turin’s Historic Center

Start your day at the iconic Mole Antonelliana, a towering spire that dominates the city skyline. Climb to the top for panoramic views of Turin and the Alps beyond. Next, head to Piazza Castello, the heart of the city, where you’ll find the stunning Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace) and the Museo Egizio, one of the world’s finest collections of Egyptian antiquities. In the evening, I recommend dinner at Consorzio, a cozy restaurant serving up delicious Piedmontese specialties like agnolotti del plin and brasato al Barolo.

During the winter months, Piazza Castello comes alive with festive markets and twinkling Christmas lights, adding to the magical atmosphere.

Day 2: Exploring Turin’s Parks and Historic Quarters

Start your day with a visit to the Basilica di Superga, a stunning Baroque church perched atop a hill overlooking Turin. From there, head to Parco del Valentino, a beautiful riverside park that’s home to an ice skating rink during the winter months. Grab a hot chocolate and take a spin on the ice, or simply stroll through the park and admire the scenery. In the afternoon, explore the Quadrilatero Romano, Turin’s historic Roman quarter, with its charming cobblestone streets and lively piazzas. Stop for lunch at Caffè Mulassano, a classic Italian café known for its delicious coffee and pastries.

If the weather cooperates, consider taking a funicular up to the Sacra di San Michele, a stunning monastery perched atop a rocky outcrop with breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys.

Day 3: A Day in the Langhe Wine Region

No visit to Piedmont would be complete without exploring the region’s world-famous wine country. Take a day trip to the Langhe or Barolo regions, where you can visit picturesque hilltop villages, tour historic wineries, and indulge in delicious wine tastings. Many wineries offer guided tours and cellar visits, providing a fascinating glimpse into the winemaking process. Be sure to stop for a leisurely lunch at a local trattoria or winery, where you can savor regional specialties like truffles, hazelnuts, and, of course, the region’s renowned Barolo and Barbaresco wines.

If you have time, consider stopping in the charming town of Alba, known for its annual White Truffle Festival in the fall and its delicious hazelnut confections.
