Ciao, travelers! I’m Rileigh, the owner of Travel Mellow, and I’m thrilled to share my personalized 9-day itinerary for exploring the enchanting city of Venice during the beautiful spring season. Having lived in Italy for two years, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for the country’s rich culture, history, and cuisine. This itinerary is designed to help you experience the authentic side of Venice, away from the typical tourist traps, and immerse yourself in the local way of life.

Day 1: Exploring the Heart of Venice

Kick off your Venetian adventure by visiting the iconic St. Mark’s Square, where you’ll be mesmerized by the grandeur of St. Mark’s Basilica and the stunning architecture of the Doge’s Palace. After marveling at these iconic landmarks, indulge in a quintessential Venetian experience – a gondola ride through the city’s picturesque canals. As the sun sets, stroll across the famous Rialto Bridge and savor some delicious cicchetti (Venetian tapas) at Cantina Do Spade or Cantina Do Mori.

Day 2: Exploring the Venetian Islands

Today, embark on a journey to the nearby islands of Murano and Burano. In Murano, witness the skilled artisans at work as they create stunning glass masterpieces, and consider taking a glass-blowing class for a truly immersive experience. Then, head to Burano, famous for its vibrant, colorful houses and intricate lace-making traditions. I recommend trying the delicious seafood at Osteria Al Portego or Osteria Boccadoro for lunch.

Day 3: Day Trip to Verona

Take a day trip to the romantic city of Verona, known for its connection to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Visit the famous Juliet’s Balcony and leave a love note on the wall, then explore the impressive Arena di Verona, a well-preserved Roman amphitheater. If you’re a fan of opera, consider attending a performance at the Arena during your visit.

Day 4: Art and Culture in Venice

Immerse yourself in Venice’s rich artistic heritage by visiting the Gallerie dell’Accademia, home to an impressive collection of Venetian art, including works by Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese. Afterward, head to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, a modern art museum housed in Peggy Guggenheim’s former palazzo. For a sweet treat, indulge in some delicious gelato at Gelateria Nico or Gelateria Il Doge.

Day 5: Day Trip to Padua

Venture outside Venice and explore the historic city of Padua. Visit the stunning St. Anthony’s Basilica, a renowned pilgrimage site, and marvel at the breathtaking frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel, considered one of the masterpieces of Western art. I suggest trying the local cuisine at one of the traditional osterie (taverns) in Padua’s historic center.

Day 6: Exploring the Cannaregio Neighborhood

Escape the crowds and discover the charming Cannaregio neighborhood, one of the most authentic areas of Venice. Wander through its narrow streets and canals, visit the historic Jewish Ghetto, and sample some delicious cicchetti and spritz (Venetian aperitif) at Osteria Al Squero or Osteria Alla Ciurma.

Day 7: Day Trip to Treviso

Take a day trip to the charming town of Treviso, often referred to as “Little Venice” due to its picturesque canals and waterways. Stroll through the historic center, admire the stunning Piazza dei Signori, and enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the local cafés or restaurants.

Day 8: Exploring the Dorsoduro Neighborhood

Spend your last full day in Venice exploring the vibrant Dorsoduro neighborhood, known for its lively atmosphere and artistic flair. Visit the Accademia Galleries and the Punta della Dogana contemporary art museum. In the evening, take a stroll along the Zattere promenade and enjoy the stunning views of the Giudecca Canal.
